Our primary focus is on training and the personal development of every student, and performance opportunities represent an important - though not exclusive - part of this process. Our lead team plan a range of performance opportunities to support students of all ages, at all stages of their personal journeys. Read on to find out more about the opportunities available to every student at The Musical Theatre Centre.
SHOWS & PERFORMANCES
Every two years, we perform a major musical theatre showcase at a theatre in London. Preparation, auditions, and rehearsals for our showcase take up the Spring and Summer term of the performance year, with showcases typically taking place in late June.
LONDON SHOWCASES
PERFORMANCE PROJECTS
In non-showcase years, we take part in a summer term performance project. Performance projects take place in exciting performance venues, and include one or two pieces of material performed by the whole school, alongside opportunities for solo features.
END-OF-TERM SHOWINGS
Our end-of-term showings are opportunities for all of our classes and students to share what they have been working on during the term, in a supportive and low-pressure workshop-style environment. Showings are usually only open to staff and students.
PREVIOUSLY…
In 2026, we performed our showcase BEYOND at the Marylebone Theatre in London. Supported by a dedicated full creative team led by our Heads of Department and supported by carefully selected visiting creatives (musical directors, accent coaches, audition panellists, and artistic associates), students performed pieces from Billy Elliot, Waitress, The Prince of Egypt, Dear Evan Hansen, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Newsies, The Wiz, Smash, Back to the Future, 13, The Greatest Showman, Ragtime, Spring Awakening, and Hamilton.
BEYOND was directed by Biancha-Maria Szynal, and the performance was conducted by Eve Millward, and accompanied by a live band of four professional musicians.
Following this sold-out performance, over 25% of our students received offers of professional representation from agents and talent scouts who were in attendance.
BEYOND
In 2025, we commissioned musical theatre composer Scott Alan (previous collaborators include Cynthia Erivo, Jeremy Jordan, Sutton Foster, Lea Salonga, and Pentatonix) to compose a brand-new original song for us. His creation was the beautiful “See You There”. We recorded vocals and filmed a music video at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios in June 2025, in the iconic Studio 2: the very room where The Beatles recorded 190 of their 210 songs, and the location of iconic recordings made by Adele, Oasis, Kate Bush, Ed Sheeran, and more!
Scott said: “Wonderful job. No notes. I can’t wait to see where the students find themselves in the industry. I’m sure I’ll be watching them on the West End one day in the future!”
SEE YOU THERE
In 2024, we performed our showcase WHEN YOU BELIEVE at the RADA Studio Theatre in London. Supported by a dedicated full creative team led by our Heads of Department and supported by carefully selected visiting creatives, students performed pieces from A Chorus Line, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Wicked, Dogfight, Beetlejuice, Follies, Aladdin, 9 to 5, Company, Peter Pan, and Hamilton.
BEYOND was directed by Biancha-Maria Szynal, and the performance was conducted by Ashton Moore, and accompanied by a live band of four professional musicians.
Following this sold-out performance, over 20% of our students received offers of professional representation from agents and talent scouts who were in attendance.
WHEN YOU BELIEVE
In 2023, we performed at Take the Stage at the Cliffs Pavilion - the largest theatre in Essex - in front of a packed audience of over 1,000 people.
Part of the preparation for Take The Stage included having bespoke instrumental tracks created for us by 15 professional musicians playing over 20 different instruments across four recording sessions at the Khanda Rooms in Leigh-on-sea, Essex, and recording ensemble vocals across one recording day with a professional sound engineer.
At the event, our full company performed show-stopping numbers “When You Believe” from The Prince of Egypt and “Square Root of Possible” from Jingle Jangle.
